Seven Pirate ships were closing in on the Fire Navy ships that were coming in to help destroy them. Some of them were captured Fire Navy ships themselves. Catapults were being loaded and men were striding the decks of the pirate ships. An eirie fog was setting in.
"Fire!" a captian shouted and the fireballs were launched right at the Fire Navy ships. Some made cantat others were just hit by glancing blows. Jiro looked over the railing again.
"Orodreth! Time to go!" he shouted. Jiro hated leaving men behind. They were his family to him. "I don't know if we can defeat all their ships!"

Captain Jiro's voice reached Orodreth even as more fire flew over his head. "There's no way that I could get up the rope without being killed by his fire. Go without me. I'll keep this one busy, and hopefully we can meet again some day." He took a final load of earth from the ship and used it to provide a rock shield the size of his body. Fire hit into it but withstood the blows. He looked up and met the captain's eyes. "It was an honor to serve under the flag of your leadership."

As the pirate yelled something to his commander, Hara shot two balls of fire out and used his bending to cause them to hook around the pirate's earth shield. Each fire ball hooked around a different side and Hara charged forward firing blasts of flame at the pirate to keep him from dodging his attack.

Jiro just couldn't leave Orodreth high and dry. He made a split decision.
"Abandon Ship!" he bellowed. "Take everything of value and make off to the other ships!". His plan was that if Orodreth survived he would have a means of escaping the ocean's grip. "Orodreth! The ship is yours! You know how to find us if you need to!". and with that he gave his crewman a salute and climbed the rope that fell from the high deck of his flagship. "Let's get out of here and burn their shps to the ground!"

Orodreth did a back flip off of the ice and sent his shield of earth smashing into the ice. The entire platform broke apart and sent the fire bender into the water. Orodreth landed into the water with a splash and, only inches above him, the fire sizzled into the water.
Swimming was never Orodreth's strong point, but he knew that bending would be impossible for both of them while in this non-solid environment. He gave a smile back. "Looks like we're gonna have to see how the fire nation trains its soldiers for melee combat in the water." With that, Orodreth dove under water and swam toward the fire nation soldier.

This wasn't good for Hara, but at least the earth bender wouldn't be able to bend in the water with sinking so all wasn't lost. He quickly ripped off his helmet and left it to float on top of the water. With that done he dove as fast as he could into the murky depths.

Just as Orodreth reached the firebender, a strange sensation began to travel up his arm. The sensation felt much like being hit with a glancing blow of a firebender's lightning. It wasn't enough to injure you, but you sure could feel it. This was the calling of his true master. The tingling in his arm revealed that the Dai Lang had need of him.
Orodreth stopped in mid stroke and dove under the fire bender. He swam until he could see the dim outline of the ship and surfaced. He pulled free his blade and attached it to his back. As his hand went to the rope he looked at the firebender only feet behind him. "I'm sorry, but I'm going to have to cut this meeting short. My services are needed elsewhere. I'm sure we'll finish this someday, hopefully on land. At least then we can truly have it as a match of bending prowess."
The second that his feet touched the deck, he let out a sigh. He hated running from a fight, but it was his obligation to discover what the Dai Lang desired from him. He didn't look to see what happened with the fire bender. He just assumed that the commander went back to the nearby fire nation ships. He set the sail as quickly as was possible, and took his place at the helm of the ship. He set the wheel away from the firenation navy and removed the metal band from his upper arm. In the clear, glass area, Orodreth saw the four numbers which announced the place where Orodreth would receive his orders.
"I wonder what it is now?" He asked to himself. It had been a few weeks since his last mission and a month or so before that. The missions were coming more and more frequently which made Orodreth wonder if something big was happening in the world. The messenger of the Dai Lang, that he would meet would explain only what he needed to know and nothing more. Even among the highest ranking members of the Dai Lang, Orodreth wasn't entitled to all the information that the Dai Lang possessed.
He looked back at the fire nation navy and sighed. He had been thinking during the fight about the things he might see onboard that ship. The only good thing about leaving it behind, was that he could once again reach land.
He wondered if he should have asked the firebender to come. He was a warrior and Orodreth had a feeling that he would be good company for whatever lay ahead. But Orodreth was used to being alone. It was the lot that his life had given him. The ship moved swiftly away from the firenation navy. A day or two of constant sailing would take him to the coordinates that his Dai Lang device had specified.
His days as a pirate would have to be put on hold for a while. Jiro would be wanting his ship back, but Orodreth's need was greater. Once he completed his mission, Orodreth would return to the islands that the pirate king called home and wait to meet him again.

Hara stared at the pirates as they ran away. " The scum, they cannot even finish their own fights."
He heard splashing behind him but didn't turn around to look. He could tell by the metallic clangs of the oars against the canoe that it was Fire Nation. A few minutes later he was back on the "Shining Lance" writing a report of the action. As the flame from the candle played around the room Hara reflected on what had happened today. The mission had started out normal enough up until he fight with the earth bending pirate. After that things had gone crazy. The Commodore in charge of the operation had deemed it a success but Hara felt it had failed.
They had only managed to destroy one pirate ship and only captured 2 of the pirates who had both died of their wounds before they could be interrogated. Now the pirate king was still running around and the man he had fought was sailing around with his own ship which could prove to cause the Nation a serious headache. Yes that pirate something was strange about him, why had he acted so strangely and simply abandoned the fight?
Before he could dwell any deeper, there was a knock at the door. He gave permission to enter and a messenger entered and handed him a dispatch. Hara scanned it quickly before rolling it back up and placing it in his robe's pocket. He dismissed the messenger and went back to face the large mirror on the wall. Normally, Hara wasn't the type to look at himself in a mirror but he just had to see his expression when he found out he was being transfered to the Earth Kingdom front, he was finally going to war.
