Hara looked out at the sea as it whipped past, the bow of the ship plowing through in a mass of foam. Normally he hated deep water, his weakness in swimming and the very incompatibility of fire with water major contributing factors. But this was different. A piece of Fire Nation weaponry conquering the very nemesis of its creators and preparing to serve its nation by vanquishing his foes. Although Hara was not in charge on this patrol he was in command of the ship, Shining Lance's compliment of foot soldiers and that was a great honor for one as young as himself. yes he was doing what he loved and it seemed things couldn't get any better. If only those pirates would show up so that he could really serve his country. The Shining Lance was really just a decoy to lure the pirates toward the rest of the task force's ships. But Hara was sure that they would all see more than enough action.

The salty air of the sea blew through Orodreth's brown hair as he leaned against the wood of the crows nest of the ship Darkblade. He had only been hired on as a crewmember in the last few weeks, but already he knew most of the crew. It didn't matter that these people were pirates. It didn't matter that they tended to board ships and steal supplies. It didn't matter that the majority of their stories contained tails of battle and death. What mattered to Orodreth was that he had found a group of people that he could relate with.
You rely on yourself. That was what he learned early in life. No one would take it easy on you just because you wanted them to. You do what you must to get by and if that isn't enough you will die. The pirates thought in the same way and with that commonality Orodreth finally felt like he belonged.
The ship contained about ten waterbenders, two fire benders, an air bender, and himself. Another six non benders and the captain filled the medium-sized pirate vessal to capacity.
A single ship's mast came into sight in the distance, and Orodreth let out a yell. He couldn't tell from this distance what sort of ship it was, but maybe the captain would.
When the ship was only a half a mile from the Shining Lance the captain let out a yell to prepare for battle. It looked as if a fire nation ship had brought itself to far away from its comrades. The supplies on this ship, once sold, would probably pay for months worth of supplies and perhaps even a few much needed repairs for their ship. Tobias remained in the crows nest waiting. He had his father's recently repaired two bladed sword slung across his back and in his pocket were three rocks that he used in desperate circumstances. A fight on the water wasn't Orodreth's strong point. He preferred the land because of its solidness, but over the months he was becoming accustomed to this sort of combat.
It wasn't until they were within a hundred yards of the ship that Orodreth noticed the number of troops on board. This would be harder than he thought.

"Bring out the grapple hooks!" Jiro shouted. He loved the thrill of sea combat. He looked over to a water bender. "Stop her in her tracks boys."
******
"Prepare to Board!"

After the captain yelled out his command, Orodreth jumped from the crow's nest. The descent took a minute, but when he got to the deck he drew his three rocks and bended them around his hands. These earth gloves would protect against the scrapes and cuts that he would be sure to receive while in the center of combat. He drew his sword and waited for the grappling hooks to provide him with a way to the other ship. Just another fight, he thought to himself as he watched the ships position themselves directly across from one another.

Hara looked out as the pirates readied themselves for battle. Just as he had expected, they intended to board the ship and overrun it. Turning to the twenty men under his command he said, "All fire benders follow me I have a plan. Sergeant Ayu, you're in command until I get back. Men fight well for the glory of the Fire Nation, drive back these brigands!"
With that he took the five fire benders under his command and headed to the catapult on the ship. Hara yelled out to the nearest catapultist," On my word fire at the pirates' ship!" "But sir, we have no ammunition!" Smiling, Hara gestured to himself and the other fire benders as they piled into the cup of the catapult and laughed, "We are the ammunition. Now fire!"
With that the five fire benders were catapulted into the air and began arching towards the pirate vessel. Curling himself into a ball, Hara steeled himself for impact.

"Watch Out!" Captian Jiro yelled. Too late. They had brought the battle to them. Jiro drew his braodsword at went for the first firebender he saw.
"Men! To Me! Overwhlem these benders!"

Orodreth moved his sword in a diagnol position and waited for the first firebender to move in range. Flames moved around him but a few quick dodges helped Orodreth to ignore most of the blast. He sent the right side of his blade down and into the back of one of the benders who had just landed near the captain.
A flame caught Orodreth's cloak and in seconds it was burning uncontrollably. With a shrug the cloak fell to the ground, and once again Orodreth moved toward the battle.

Yelling like a man possessed Jiro charged head on into the nearest firebender. Hacking and slashing he cared not for defense, he wanted these swine off of his ship.

Hara quickly dispatched the closest pirate with a fire ball. Upon seeing what appeared to be the captain of the pirates fighting one of his men, he rushed forward, brandishing his knife in one hand and a fireball in the other. "Death to the pirate scum! For the fire nation!" His men took up the chant and charged the enemy, they knew they couldn't take the pirates by themselves but that wasn't their objective any way.

Jiro stiff legged the man shouting in the chest.
"Death To The Fire Nation!" he yelled, slashing a firebender in the back.

Orodreth sent one of his rock gloves flying into the face of a firebender sending him into the water with a splash. After bringing back the 'glove' he began a fight with a broadsword wielding fire nation soldier. Both ends of his blade parried the strikes of the bender, but Orodreth could not seem to find an opening in this man's defenses.

Another firebender was thrown off of the ship. Now only three remained, their leader and one other. Pirates were closing in on them as the waterbenders on the ship tried to freeze the fire navy ship.

As the water benders moved forward Hara gave the signal for his men to attack them. Just as he'd expected the pirates were using their water benders to stop the Shining Lance. Har and the three remaining fire benders charged for the benders, two of the fire benders blowing a screen of smoke to distract the enemy while Hara and the other fire bender continued their rush towards the water benders.

Orodreth watched the firebenders charging for the waterbenders. He knew already that he could not allow these two groups to meet. He sent one of his rock gloves at the leader of the fire benders and caught his foot enough to slow him. Orodreth then dove in front of the leader and put his blade out in a defensive arc. "Why don't you finish one fight before you run to the next," he says with a grin.

Hara jumped back and pulled out his knife. Seeing how much his opponent was enjoying this he allowed himself to show the pirate a half smile. With that he charged the pirate, his knife angled so that it could get under his defenses.
