With a turn of his longer blade, Orodreth parried the knifes angle. The blade nicked his rock gloves, but Orodreth never noticed. He took a step back and spun his two bladed sword in a wide arc. The short knife would do little against his blades, but Orodreth knew not to underestimate an oponent. He sent the right side of his sword toward the shoulder of his opponent in an effort to regain the offensive. "You expect to beat me with that little knife?" He asked in amusement. He hoped that his comments could keep this soldier from the concentration he would need.

Hara switched the knife to a reversed position to block the sword with his right hand. Jumping back he said, "You really think a little banter will beat me? You'd better have more than that if you wanna live." With that he shot off a jet of flame with his left hand towards the pirate's head, crouching low and charging his opponent in an attempt to stab him upwards again.

A quick tumble helped Orodreth to dodge the flame and in the same instant, move him from the knife. He regained his footing three feet to the left of the firebender. With a flick of his wrist a throwing knife appears in his hand, and Orodreth sends it flying at his foe. "You don't need to worry about me living. I've fought far worse than the likes of you." He knew the knife wouldn't strike the final blow, but the distraction gave Orodreth a moment to plan his next blow. He repositioned his blade and waited.

"Break out the barrels of dirt!" Jiro shouted. Four pirates brought out two barrels of dirt from belowdecks as fast as possible and dumped them on the deck. Jiro kept these barrels around so that his earthbenders could fight at sea.
"Get this scum off of my ship" He shouted.

With the earth brought to him, Orodreth decided to quickly put an end to this fight. "Hope you can swim," He said with a smile and sent some solidified dirt into the fire nation comander's side. Even as the commander was regaining his balance, Orodreth was closing the gap between the two. With a final move Orodreth left the ground and tackled the commander sending both him and Orodreth flailing toward the approaching water.

"Someone help Orodreth! He's overboard!" shouted a pirate. several people ran to the railing with ropes, shouting for him to grab hold.

Hara and the pirate's fall towards the water was stopped by a bone jarring crash into a sheet of ice. After Hara had recovered enough to realize what was happening and that the pirate was lying on top of him, Hara quickly head-butted the pirate and fought to get to his feet and assume a bending stance.

The blow to his head sent Orodreth rolling hard on the ice sheet. The world seemed to be spinning, and for some reason it would not stop. By the time the Orodreth managed to stand up the fire bender was already preparing his strike. "Well this isn't good," He thinks to himself as he sees the flames

As Hara was about to deliver the final blow, he stopped and instead fired a blast of flame into the air. He smiled as he saw the smoke-stacks of the fire Nation Navy were coming to his signal. Turning to the pirate he had been fighting he said, "You might wanna get out of here, once those ships arrive it will all be over for your little band of corsairs. But then it would be a shame for such a good fighter to lose his life in a prison cell somewhere in the Fire Nation. If you want I could use someone like you, it could be very useful to have an earth-bender on my side in the current war. Of course you could always reject my offer and run away only to be hunted down by the navy. It's your choice, I won't try to stop you if you take the second option though I would prefer you take the first." With that, Hara got out of his fighting position and extended his hand to the pirate.

"Reinforcements!" shouted the helmsman. Jiro swore. He looked to one of the pirates under his command.
"Send up the signal!" he shouted. A pirate jumped up and ran towards the back of the ship. He lit a small cylinder and a large arc of purple fire shot out and exploded high above the sea. More ships wore coming now, from the opposite direction of the Fire Navy. They were flying Jiro's flag. They didn't call him the Pirate King for nothing...

Orodreth looked at the extended hand and scowled. "The fire nation destroyed my life. Why would I join them?" He reached over for the rope, though he didn't grab it yet. Curiosity always seemed to get the better of him and this time was no exception. "Why is it you even make the offer?"

"Because I have an appreciation for those who fight with honor. I don't know what grudge you have with the fire nation but I think you're making a mistake anyway. But then it's that spirit that makes me like you. How about we make a little agreement", Hara said as he assumed a fighting stance again,"If I win you become my bodyguard, if you win I will escort you to a safe place to resume your life on the run" With that, Hara let out a laugh and said, "So what's it gonna be?"

Orodreth tried to smile in order to hide the battle raging in his mind. He knew what the fire nation represented. He hated what they represented. But he also knew that this war really wasn't as much of their fault as everyone thought. The anger he felt towards the fire nation had fueled many of his fights, but the thoughts of what he might learn while with this person tempted him. Finally he made up his mind. "I'm not going to abandon the people that are on that ship. You let them escape and I'll come with you. If you refuse, I will kill you or die trying. Just let them get away, thats all I ask." He stood up and kept his blade in front of him. His body reached out and felt for the earth close to him. When the connection was made, Orodreth waited. The man's answer would come soon enough. By tomorrow, Orodreth would be a bodyguard of a fire nation captain, a pirate onboard the same ship he had left the earth kingdom in, or dead. The choices were all extremes, but that was how Orodreth chose to live his life. "We take what life gives us and offer no complaints." His father's words echoed in his mind. The thought somehow calmed down Orodreth. Life had presented him with a very different options and now it came down to this fire nation captain's choice to determine which path Orodreth would soon follow.

Hara smiled as he said, "I knew you wouldn't disappoint me" With that he pulled out his knife and threw it down so that that tip embedded itself in the ice. "No weapons, let's make this a real challenge of bendeing. Fire vs earth." Not waiting for his opponents reply Hara shot a blast of flame towards his chest.

Orodreth ducked to dodge the flame then threw his sword into the wood of the Darkblade. He brought the earth down from the ship and sent it down to the block of ice in a wave. He kicked two blocks of stone forward but sent a third one into the ice. The frozen water let out a crack and broke into four seperate pieces. The fire nation captain stood on a piece still a foot and a half across, but Orodreth had to jump to the next block in order to gain footing.
