Questions about the Dai Lang

There is a recruitment section in the white lotus thread but I'm wondering what sort of things that the Dai Lang stand for and require of their memebers. Am I missing something that tells me this or is it just not posted?

oh....I forgot to post it. well the Dai Lang want just about the same thing as the Order of the White Lotus, politacal dominace. They will use any means nescarry to gain it. assassination, bribary, extortion. they also are mercs and assassins for hire. they completly oppose the order of the white lotus and are activle trying to destroy them. thats why they do everything in secret, so they won't draw attantion to eachother. They are named after the Father Wolf, Dai Lang, who is their patron spirit that watches out for them. They are "kinda evil"....any question!

what sort of different ranks does this order have. I understand that there is an Overlord but what is below him and then below them. I'm just wondering what the difference would be in joining under this thread or in the recruitment thread

Well here is what I thought of so far. Just kind of a brain storm but tell me what you think of it. I'll try to think of the names for the other 3 ranks later, and if you think of any it would work to.


Explanation:
The goal of the Dai Lang is to gain political dominance, and they will use any means necessary to gain it. Assassination, bribery, extortion are all acceptable and preferred methods of the Dai Lang. It is common for a Dai Lang to act as a mercenary or assassin for hire. By doing this, they gain both the trust of their clients and practice in methods that the Dai Lang values. They oppose the Order of the White Lotus and are constantly making attempts to destroy them. They act in secret in order to keep attention away from their order. They are named after the Father Wolf, Dai Lang, who is their patron spirit that watches out for them.

The Dai Lang is separated into three different sections: The Overlord is the leader of the Dai Lang. The Council is used to keep order throughout the Dai Lang and to provide leadership to the lesser ranks. Those that are not the Overlord or member of the Council are known as Cubs. The cubs are the members of the Dai Lang that provide smaller services to the other two sections in order that they may rise through the ranks and one day receive a position in the Council.

The Council separates itself further by the focus of each individual, while the cubs are separated first by rank then by focus.


Council Postitions of the Dai Lang:
1 Head: (Overlord) The undisputed head of the Dai Lang. At any time, the Overlord may choose to take on the duties of any other position in the Dai Lang. For example: When the Avatar’s assassination was enacted, the Overlord took on the responsibilities of a leg and helped with the assassination.

2 Ears: (Espionage) These two members are usually sent out before a contract is assigned. They pay close attention to every that goes on in the area and then sends a sealed report back to the Overlord with details. There are two representatives of the Ears but they may use any number of willing cubs for less important contracts.

1 Throat: (Extortionists) This person is in control of the monetary dealings of the Dai Lang such as the gaining of technology or information from sources. The representative of the mouth may use up to two other cubs if needed for some task.

4 Legs: (Assassins) These four members are cunning warriors that rely on deception and stealth to bring an opponent down. They receive a notice from the Overlord and in this notice is a copy of the report given by the ears and the order itself. Any one leg can call for the assistance of up to seven other cubs, but this person is responsible for what the cubs do.


New Recruits:
Cubs: The new recruits of the Dai Lang. These people are used usually for small tasks that have some specific importance to the organization. The various members of the leadership council may take on any number of cubs in order to complete a mission. While a cub does have the choice to accept or decline this command, the decline of an offer will affect the way that the Dai Lang views you.




Ranks of the Cubs:
The Cubs have several separate ranks to show both their prowess and dedication to the Dai Lang.

First Rank: (Fur) The fur is the most abundant part of the wolf, and though it provides no aid in battle, it shelters the wolf and keeps it alive. The lowest rank of the Dai Lang. These members consist of new recruits and members that refuse to act as commanded by a member of the council. These members often are used only as informants. If a higher ranked member of the Dai Lang is in need of information about something specific, or a place to hide these people are obliged to comply.

Second Rank: (Teeth) Their are many teeth in the mouth of the wolf and each has a purpose. A single tooth does not kill the prey, but instead a jaw full does the job. These members consist of those informants that have either provided a service to their superior or have remained a loyal member for three months. These members are often taken on as a sort of student by one of the Council members. This apprenticeship is decided both by the council member and by the person’s abilities. These members are still required to comply with any order that they receive from a member of the council, and must provide a place to hide to any member of the Dai Lang.

Third Rank: (Breath) A wolf breathes many times in a day, and each breath is as important as the last. Though there are an uncountable number of breaths in the day, each one gives the wolf the strength to continue on. These members are those apprentices that have showed great improvement in their abilities. These apprentices are now given more freedom within the Dai Lang and may receive their own missions from any member of the council. These members are still required to follow any order from a member of the council and must provide a safe place to hide to any ranking member of the Dai Lang.

Fourth Rank: (Claws) The claw has many uses to the wolf. While it is not used primarily in attack, it can be the difference between a wolf's life and a wolf's death. The final rank before being named a member of the council of the Dai Lang. These members are among those few people that have proven their loyalty over and over again. They carried out any order that they received and did so without a sign of weakness. These members are given the freedom to call upon one other lower ranked member to aid them in any mission that they may receive. The missions that these people receive often relate to the apprenticeship that they had undertaken. These members are still required to obey an order from a council member of their own prowess, but are given the option to ignore another council member’s request. This refusal is frowned upon and if a person makes a habit of this, they may find themselves losing their rank. These members are also obliged to provide a safe place for any member of the council for as long as it is deemed necessary.



Naming a member to the Council:
A member of the council can be named only if a position is open. The exception to this relies on the Overlord’s discretion. If it is deemed necessary that another council position is necessary, The Overlord may call for a vote of the council. Each member receives a single vote, but the Overlord receives three votes for this. Because of this, only a united council can turn down this proposal.



Naming an Overlord:
When an Overlord dies or is deemed unfit to rule, a new one is chosen in one of two ways. The first way is a vote taken by both the remaining members of the council and those members of the Dai Lang that have achieved the fourth rank. The person chosen does not need to be a member of the council, but after being elected must prove him or herself worthy of the title by completing tests assigned by each council member. If the person fails more than two of these tests, they are not able to assume command. Four separate people may be given a chance to assume rule by this before the second way begins.

The second way is by a challenge being issued by the council of the Dai Lang. The last challenge that was issued was to restart the war between the Fire Nation and Earth Nation. A member of the council then used an array of members from every rank to lead a fake fire nation attack on an Earth kingdom city. When war was declared this council member was given command of the Dai Lang.

I have a suggestion. For the third rank of the cubs, you should make it the claws then the fourth should be the eyes. Or the other way around. <<
