Naida awoke, feeling tired and sore. She could feel warmth nearby and opened her eyes, blinking. There was a warm fire crackling and moving shadows went in and out from behind her. After she stood up and walked toward the doorway, she came to realize that she was back home in the Northern Water Tribe.
With a burst of joy she ran down the hallway, decorated with paintings. She wanted to see her grandmother and her little sister. Her bare feet clattered against the floor as she approached her grandmothers' room. Naida was about to greet her but ... no sound. She tried to talk but no sound came from her mouth. Still in shock, Naida peered in, not wanting to disturb her if she was sleeping. Grandma got quite cranky when awakened from her napping. But to Naida's surprise, her grandmother wasn't there. But ... she was always there! She was too old to leave the bedroom ...
Suddenly, a sense of dread overcame her and Naida whipped around, her silver hair flowing gracefully. She sprinted down the stairs and out the front door. She was horrified at what she saw. There was fire everywhere and it looked as if a terrible storm had hit the homes and buildings. She ran to the river, a block away and gasped. Instead of seeing the crystal clear water that always flowed through the city, the river was a scarlet red, almost like ... like blood. Naida looked up and down the street, desperate to see any kind of movement ... anything!
From behind her, someone called her name. "Naida ..." The Water Bender spun around to see who was there. The voice sounded so familiar. She screamed when she saw who it was, although there still was no sound and tears flowed down her face. Azalanten was crawling on the floor, blood dripping from his mouth and nose. His leg was twisted and one of his eyes had been gouged out. He reached out to her with his hand. "N-Naida ... please ... h-help ... me ..." Naida fell to her knees and sobbed. She was unable to cry out for help. Another shadow came over her and she looked up. There was an archer from the Fire Nation standing there. She gazed up at him, a look of pleading in her eyes, hoping and praying that he would help them. He smirked and reached over his back bringing out an arrow and a bow. Naida's body felt as heavy as lead and she couldn't get up to defend the vulnerable Azalanten. She watched, terrified as the archer prepared his arrow, aimed, and shot. Then everything went black. All she could hear was that cruel, insane laughter echoing in her head ...'
Naida gasped as she woke up. She was shivering and couldn't figure out where she was for a brief moment. She saw Azalanten standing over her and Naida was almost afraid to look ... scared that she would see what she saw in her dream. No. Nightmare. Everything seemed colder and darker now. 'Is that ... what'll happen if I tell?' she thought to herself. Maybe it was a premonition of what was to come if she told the Fire Nation of the Northern Water Tribe's defenses. There was no way she could tell them now. Not ever. She would rather die or be tortured for the rest of her life then have everyone else suffer like that ...
