The dark cover of trees hid the small campsite. Hina stood, braiding her long golden hair while keeping a watchful eye on the small boy sitting on a log. He was gazing at the sky, watching two hawks chase each other as they weaved through the clouds.
"Hina? What age do hawks become adults?" He asked in a small, but sweet voice. Hina turned towards the boy, smiling. "I'm not really sure Benji. I'll look it up the next time I get the chance." The boy pouted, "But Hina, that's what you always say! I want to go to the library now!" The teenager put her hands on her hips, looking at the boy sternly. "Benji, I do not want to hear any whining. I promise we will go to the library when we get the chance, but right now we are in the middle of the Fire Nation wilderness." Benji hung his head and then replied in a shameful voice, "Sorry, Hina."
Hina gave the boy a small hug. "You're forgiven. Now, let's get on the road!" She said cheerfully and then picked up her roughly woven cap, tucking her long yellow braid into her cap. She fixed the rim, casting a shadow over here eyes. Her disguise was complete. She grabbed her rucksack and then put out the fire. "Don't forget your coat Benji!" She called to the five year-old. Benji went and grabbed a thick, dark brown coat and pulled it on, following Hina through the woods.

Yurika was walking through the woods, trying to decide whether or not to stop here to rest when she heard some voices. It sounded like a little boy. She went to where she heard them. "Hello?" she said, "Is anybody here?"

Hina stiffened up, somebody had heard them. She motioned for Benji to come closer, his eyes getting big as he scurried over to her. They crouched down, looking for whoever had called out. Hina hoped with all her might that they were friendly. In preparation, she thought of all the ways to escape, taking in her surroundings.

Nothing. Nothing but the sound of the wind rustling the grass. "Hello?" Yurika tried again. "Is some one out here? Are you lost?". She just could swear that she heard a little boy saying soething a moment ago. "Little boy? I just want to hep you..." she said, pushing her hair out of her eyes. "Hello?" she asked again, searching the nearby bushes.

The bushes rustled as a girl parted them, revealing their hiding spot. She looked up smiling awkwardly, "I'm Hina. Sorry about the strange introduction. I'm a bit paranoid." She said, clutching Benji to her side protectively. He tried to squirm away from her, but she gripped him hard.

Yurika recoiled in surprise from finding the twos hiding place. She regained her composure quickly. "What are you two doing out here all by yourselves?"

"Traveling." Hina answered simply and then helped Benji up, brushing the dirt off his earth colored clothing and then for herself. "Who might you be?" She asked curiously, and lightly.

Abbas glided soundlessly over a secluded clearing in the middle of an unknown forest, Aden knew they were somewhere in the Earth Kingdom--however, he was just struggling to locate a certain Fire Nation village. Securing his grip around the feathered scruff of the Vulture Griffin, Aden prepared himself for a rough and possibly painful landing. With a strident cry, the creature took a sudden dive and the ground was approaching fast. Closing his eyes, he waited for the inevitable to occur, the pull of gravity weighing them down even further.
Almost a minute later, they had finally reached their destination, leaving a trail of muddy skid marks behind them. Sighing to himself quietly, Aden quickly restrained Abbas by tying a loose knot around the creatures long throat with some spare rope. Looking around suspiciously, he scanned the area with his pale blue eyes. Nothing seemed to be out of the ordinary--but without warning, there was an uncertain noise in the distance. Aden couldn't quite make it out, but it sounded like just an innocent conversation. Down casting his eyes in relief, he was sure to flip his patchy black hood over his head, taking no chances. He began strolling along the weather worn path at a believable pace, trying not to be noticed.

Hina turned her head, catching the sound of footsteps among the forest. "Excuse me, We'll be right back." She told the woman, lowering her voice to make it sound more like a boy's. Hina had to make her disguise as a boy convincing, after all.
She adjusted her cap, keeping her eyes hidden and then pulled Benji onto her back. She started to run, making her steps silent with her airbending and then slowed her pace as she saw a hooded figure walking along a roughly made path. A little ways behind the figure was a giant bird creature. Before she could do anything Benji blurted out. "Cool!" She turned and clamped her hand over his mouth. Now they were given away for sure.

Watching the ground closely, lost in thought Aden only became aware of an unfamiliar presence when Abbas wailed in distress. The creature stopped in mid-stride before raising its large wings in panic, flapping them uncertainly. Aden, caught completely off guard by this, struggled to keep Abbas under control with the makeshift leash tied loosely around the Vulture Griffins slender neck. Everything happened so fast that his black hood was thrown off violently by a strong gust of wind made by the flying creatures wings, to reveal his striking features. His long jet black hair had rebelliously fallen out of the ponytail he had tied it in earlier, shrouding his pale complexion in shadows, while a strange white bang was thrown around his forehead with each tug of the rope.
After calming the creature down, Aden directed his cold gaze toward the source of the small outburst, he was surprised to see two young boys, the older of the two looked to be at around his age. Composing himself without a word, he was sure to check that his right arm was still covered up to the elbow by a long glove. "Vulture Griffin, not a toy." Aden replied shortly to the small boys remark with a slight sneer, not bothering to give eye contact. Abbas was now taking an interest in the small boy, the creatures powerful lion body treading cautiously over to him with a chirp of curiosity. Observing the older boy now, Aden noticed that he was trying to hide his eyes with the top of his cap for some odd reason. "Do you have something to hide or are you truly that hideous?" He questioned in a serious tone, a smirk tugging at the corners of his mouth.

The bird responded to them by raising chaos, causing it to flap it's wings, making the figure's hood fly off. Hina recognized it as a boy that seemed to be about her age. "Vulture Griffin, not a toy." He responded in a short tone to Benji who was gazing at the large bird wide-eyed. It walked towards them a bit and gazed curiously a Benji, who gazed back at it, equally as curious.
The boy turned to Hina and spoke in a serious tone to her. "Do you have something to hide or are you really that hideous?" She saw him starting to smirk. She spoke lower than usual in her perfected 'boy' tone. "If I did, I certainly wouldn't tell you." She didn't trust this boy and would try to maintain her disguise as long as possible, although this boy seemed unnaturally sharp. She glanced at the bird, leaning her head down ever so slightly to keep the shadow over her eyes made by her worn cap. She had to admit it was pretty interesting having never had an animal companion herself.

Aden quirked an eyebrow up at the other boy, there seemed to be something about him that wasn't quite right. Narrowing his pale blue eyes as the boy responded to his teasing question in an oddly low tone. Finally getting a short glimpse of the boys eyes as he tilted his head ever so slightly, Aden saw that they were a mysterious dark golden colour, you could tell a lot about a person from their eyes. However, since he had only seen them briefly there was no chance of finding out anything helpful about the strange boys intentions. "Ooh, pity." Aden replied in mock disappointment, pouting for a short moment before scanning the area around them for possible threats.
Although the boy was a considerable amount shorter than Aden, he couldn't help but feel wary of his presence. Hating the fact that he didn't know anything more about the two boys that stood before him, he wondered if they would share even their names, no doubt giving false ones until they considered him trustworthy. "Well, do you have a name at least? If it's any consolation, my name is Aden... and this is Abbas." He added quickly, waving his hand vaguely toward the large creature beside him. "And who's your animal companion?" Aden asked, glancing down at the smaller boy while holding back a small chuckle.

Hina glanced at the Aden and then responded, "I'm Lee and this is Benji, my 'animal companion'." She wasn't sure that Aden was his real name, but he said it in a fairly sincere way so Hina was pretty sure he was telling the truth. She obviously couldn't tell him her real name since it was obviously a girl's name and would pretty much give her away.
Benji just realized that Aden had called him an animal and then pouted. "You know, that's not a very nice thing to say." He told him and then got off the ground. "Can I pet Abbas? I've always wanted a pet." He pulled off his coat and tossed it on the ground, revealing the series of faded scars on his right arm.
Hina leaned down to pick it up, tilting her head downward. There was a large gust of wind and Hina's cap was blown off. In a desperate attempt to save her disguise she used some airbending but it didn't work and the cap ended up landing on the ground next to Aden. Her pale golden hair had fallen out of it's braid and it tumbled down her shoulder's, covering her face.
"Great." She muttered, looking up at Aden, revealing her delicate features that were obviously not a boy's. She had just given away that she was a girl and an airbender.

Nodding in response to Lee's introduction, Aden could only assume that he was lying about something as he seemed like a very reserved young boy. Smirking briefly as Lee added "animal companion" onto the end of his sentence, he agreed entirely. Staring at the pouting Benji, a look of distaste twisting his features, "the truth hurts" he answered the child simply. Watching the little boy struggle to his feet, he was just about to reply with another ironic comment when Benji suddenly pulled off his coat while revealing a series of faded scars on his right arm. Widening his eyes in repressed shock, his left hand slowly moved to touch his own covered right arm, but he quickly withdrew it, hoping that neither of them had noticed. "You may..." he managed to say quietly.
Absently observing Lee gather up the small coat, a large gust of wind suddenly blew his cap off, watching the cap flit across the clearing and toward himself, Aden let out a small gasp of shock. Although he wasn't surprised that this girl had been hiding something, he hadn't expected it to be so drastic. A girl and an Airbender? Transfixed by her pale golden hair, dancing in the breeze, he had never actually seen a real life Airbender, mostly surrounded by Firebenders all his life. "Airbender..." he breathed, still in a state of surprise, "Lee, ay?" He added quickly, in his usual tone. Giving her a look as if to dare her to tell him her real name, Aden slowly bent over to pick up the cap off the ground. Benji seemed to be a little confused, unsure whether to act like his companion was still a boy. "What now, are you a girl too?" Aden asked him sarcastically, raising his eyebrows in question.

"Very funny." She replied sarcastically to his comment about Benji being a girl, now in her normal voice which was light and musical. "My real name is Hina, and his really is Benji." Benji stood, his mouth gaping slightly, his hand hovering over the large bird creature's back. "And yes, I'm an airbender." She told him, it was kind of funny how shocked he had been. "I stay disguised like that because being a boy I can do more and remain more unnoticed. Girl's don't exactly get treated fairly in most places." She got up, brushing her golden hair behind her ears.
Benji was petting the bird now, talking to it softly. Hina glanced at his scarred arm and sighed. "Alright, Benji! Time for a healing session!" She called out cheerfully. He started to whine, but stopped at a sharp look from Hina. She reached into her worn brown backpack and took out a small bowl and some green and red leaves. She mixed them together with some water from a small canteen, turning it into a salve. "Come here." She called to him. Benji scurried over and started to apply it gently on the burns. Benji winced as the slight burning sensation set in.
